Record Auction Price for Marilyn Monroe Illustration
An Earl Moran painting of the “Blond Bombshell,” Marilyn Monroe sold at auction
this past month for a record auction price of $83,650 at a Heritage Galleries auction in Beverly Hills California. Not only
did this painting bring in seven times of its prior sales estimate, but it set the record for an Earl Moran painting. The painting,
which actually depicts a young Norma Jean, is a signed, pastel on board, measuring 31.5 x 23.25 inches under glass and is considered
to be in very good condition.
In the past few months we have written articles about a slew of new shows on television featuring antiques
and collectibles. One of those shows, Storage Wars, depicts four people who frequent abandoned storage locker auctions and the
treasures (or sometimes not) they find. One of the characters on the show is David Hester who owns Rags to Riches consignment store. Dave is seen by many who watch the show as a fierce antagonist to the other characters on the show.
Now we have received word
from Don Presley Auctions in Orange County California that a trove of Chinese antiques purchased by Hester on one of the shows will
be sold at auction on March 5-6, 2011. This collection includes Chinese ivory necklaces, bracelets, earrings and pendants as
well as buffalo horn pendants. The entire collection is expected to bring in more than $10,000 at auction. We have not
yet seen this episode to tell you how much he actually paid for the storage unit.
